Description

The stunning evening gown worn by Kim Novak for her heartwarming appearance alongside Jimmy Stewart at the 61st Oscars held at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles on March 29th, 1989.

Kim had famously co-starred alongside Jimmy for Hitchcock’s masterpiece, ‘Vertigo’, and the much-loved supernatural romantic comedy, ‘Bell, Book and Candle’, both released in 1958. However, audiences had not seen them together since, and their joint appearance to present the Oscar for ‘Best Sound and Sound Editing’ brought the house down!

Kim Novak’s breathtaking glittering gold and velvet black evening gown showcased a figure-hugging form that beautifully complimented Novak’s enviable figure, which was still incredible at the age of 55. The dress, which was specifically designed to beautifully articulate light along its shimmering right profile, also includes a sewn-in corset as well as a zip front corset with clasp and snap to create the overlapping of the gold and black material.

Hollywood Legend, Jimmy Stewart, was so taken with the vision of Kim descending the steps to the Oscar podium in this stunning gown that he ran up to take her hand and lead her down to make the presentation - to the great delight of the audience. Kim had specifically asked Oscar producers if she could present with her favourite co-star, Jimmy Stewart, and they graciously granted her request.

Kim personally gave the gown to her cousin, who treasured it for many years, before deciding to share it with the collector community.

This remarkable outfit, worn by one of Hollywood’s most luminous stars, has been authenticated by a panel of industry experts on behalf of respected auction house, Premiere Props.
